Ohio Auditor

What does the Ohio Auditor do?

The state auditor is responsible for making the state’s government more efficient by placing checks and balances on local and state governments for taxpayers. Ohio state auditors serve a four-year term.

Incumbent Ohio Auditor Keith Faber and former Nelsonville City Council Member Taylor Sappington are running for the office.

TAYLOR SAPPINGTON (D)

Taylor Sappington is the first openly gay candidate to run for state auditor. He previously worked as a council member on Nelsonville’s City Council. As Nelsonville City Auditor, Sappington oversaw city programs and departments and conducted information technology audits. Sappington previously ran for the Ohio House of Representatives in 2018, losing the 94th district to incumbent Rep. Jay Edwards. If elected, Sappington wants to construct a team to examine how corruption affects the state and contracting process. Secondly, he wants to fight against the creation of district maps that unfairly benefit a particular political party or discriminate based on race.

KEITH FABER (R)

Keith Faber is the current state auditor of Ohio. Faber has served as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 2001 to 2007, a member of the Ohio State Senate from 2007 to 2016 and president of the Ohio State Senate from 2013 to 2016. Faber is a first-generation graduate of Oakland University in Michigan and attended law school at Ohio State University. Later, he opened a private law practice in Celina, Ohio. Faber supports job creation and economic development, according to his website.
