What does the Ohio Secretary of State do?

The secretary of state serves as the chief elections officer and oversees the administration of election laws. Campaign finance reports are also filed with the office of the secretary of state. They also grant the authority to do business in Ohio. They are also responsible for records certification and filing of historical records, minister licenses and the notary commission. In Ohio, the secretary of state serves a four-year term.

Incumbent Secretary of State Frank LaRose, Terpseshore Maras and Chelsea Clark are running for the seat.

CHELSEA CLARK (D)

Chelsea Clark is a member of the Forest Park City Council She is also the owner and founder of Cincinnati STEM Lab and the founder and president of Docere4Parents Inc. Clark hails from Allen County, Ohio, and has a bachelor's degree in business from Miami University. She worked as a financial analyst and teacher before getting involved in politics. Clark supports voting rights, election integrity and small business.

FRANK LAROSE (R)

Frank LaRose is the 51st secretary of state for Ohio and previously served as a state senator. He also served in the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne, and later as a Special Forces Green Beret. He created a “Cyber Reserve,” which addresses cybersecurity threats to local governments and businesses. LaRose believes in transparency in elections and increased public accessibility for important reports and financial documents. LaRose also values supporting entrepreneurs, anti-abortion policies, and the second amendment.

TERPSESHORE MARAS (I)

Terpseshore Maras is an independent journalist and podcast host. She has served in the U.S. Navy and as a private government contractor. Maras is also a single mother and entrepreneur. Maras is running on renewed election integrity, free state ID and business transparency.
