Ohio’s 94th House District

What does an Ohio State Representative do?

The Ohio House of Representatives is the lower chamber of the Ohio General Assembly, which forms the legislative branch of the Ohio state government. The House works alongside the governor to create laws and establish the state budget. A representative's responsibilities include passing bills on public policy matters, setting levels for state spending, raising and lowering taxes and voting to uphold or override gubernatorial vetoes. Ohio State representatives serve two-year terms.

Incumbent State Rep. Jay Edwards and Tanya Conrath are running for the seat.

TANYA CONRATH (D)

Tanya Conrath replaced the previous winner of the Democratic nomination for the seat, Rhyan Goodman, who withdrew from the race in August. Conrath is an Ohio University alumna and also obtained a law degree from Ohio State University. Conrath has also worked as an attorney and co-owns a real estate appraisal company in Southeast Ohio. She openly campaigns against gerrymandering and advocates for abortion rights.

JAY EDWARDS (R)

Jay Edwards is the incumbent running for the Ohio State House of Representatives for the 94th District. Edwards has held the seat for three consecutive terms since 2016. Edwards was born and raised in Nelsonville, Ohio, where he currently resides and works as a realtor. Edwards’ focuses are the economy, education and safety. He works to protect local jobs, fund schools and vocational schools, fight the opioid epidemic, protect the second amendment and defend the sanctity of life, according to his campaign site.
