Student Senate holds first meeting, appoints eight new members
This Wednesday marked the first meeting of the Ohio University Student Senate during which they appointed eight new students for the 2025-2026 school year.
The first of the new students who were elected to the Senate is Emma Lucas, who will be the new Director of Personnel for the student senate. “Emma has already shown a strong commitment to student senate and a clear dedication to supporting her peers,” Landen Hensel, Chief of Staff, said about Lucas.
Hensel went on to elaborate on the role, saying, “The assistant chief of staff personnel is a role that requires organization, accountability, and genuine interest in helping others succeed and I am confident that Emma will excel in all areas of this role.”
The second of the new students who were elected to Senate is Austin Johnson, who will serve as the new public relations assistant for the 25-26 school year. Vice President Taras Tarasun said of Austin, "He's young, ambitious and, most importantly, a talented man.”
The Senate also passed a resolution to update the rules of SAC. According to Luke Fredericks, Senate Treasurer and primary sponsor of the bill, “This reform is necessary to ensure SAC continues to function effectively and meets the needs of the student organizations.” Many of the rules and procedures relating to SAC are outdated or contradictory. More information on resolution 2526-14 can be found on the Student Senate’s Bobcat Connect page.
