The Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice leads the state judicial branch of government. The chief justice presides over the Court's public sessions and private conferences. They have a lot of freedom in choosing what cases the court hears. To hold the position, a candidate must have six years of experience in the practice of law and must have previously been an attorney. The Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice is chairperson of the judicial conference of the United States. As superintendent of all courts of the state, they provide guidance and resources to people at local levels of all 88 separate Ohio counties to do their jobs. The Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice serves a six-year term.
