Ohio’s 12th U.S. House District

What does a U.S. Representative do?

The United States House of Representatives is the lower chamber of Congress, the legislative branch of the United States government. The House works with the Senate to create and pass bills. After both chambers of Congress pass a bill, it is sent to the president, who signs it into law. A representative’s responsibilities include to attend committee hearings, meet with constituents and vote on bills. Ohio currently has 16 members serving in the House of Representatives. Due to population decline, Ohio will only have 15 members in the House in the next Congressional session. Representatives serve two-year terms.
